“Stanley’s War is a riveting and heartfelt story of two Suffolk families from two very different backgrounds and their harrowing experiences of World War One. A powerful documentary from Tim Curtis. Not to be missed!”
- Neil McGlone, film critic, Sight & Sound Magazine
Stanley's War dramatises stories of love, loss and sacrifice, following the lives of Suffolk people during WW1. The film recounts the true life-changing experiences at the Western Front of Stanley Banyard, a farm hand from Ramsholt, and how he saved the lives of his comrades lost in no-man’s-land by using skills he learnt as a boy from a Suffolk gamekeeper.

Stanley's War was commissioned by Peninsula2018.org as part of the Armistice 100 commemorations. After months of research the filmmakers finally got a break when un-published memoirs from an ordinary Suffolk soldier were handed to them. The film was an ambitious project from the start and with auditions in August, filming in September (including northern France) and post-production in October, its was a great achievement to premiere the film on November 4th, 2018. With a cast and crew numbering almost 40 at times and with period costumes, props and locations to find, as the Producer and Director of the film, I am very proud of the end result.
Based on true events this WW1 period-drama- documentary is directed by Tim Curtis and presented by author and broadcaster John McCarthy with a screenplay written by Jonathan Ruffle, writer and creator of BBC ‘Tommies'. The Director of Photography for the drama scenes was Paul Cook. Tim Curtis was the Cameraman and Drone Operator in France.
Released 11th November 2018 on Cinema DCP / DVD and Blu-Ray
